Short commentary as this was read for our face to face bookclub meeting yesterday. I found this moderately engaging but off putting at the same time. When something happens in your childhood like that it’s hard to lead a normal Life. It could have been improved somewhat and perhaps finessed but that’s just my view.
Back in a five year old boy dies after apparently being bashed by strangers on his way home from the shops. I Came To Say Goodbyean earlier work by this author, is excellent too. It’s a story of the helpless and the hopeless and the struggle to leave a past behind that will forever haunt the future. I lov It actually took me a while to figure out this book was fiction. Read through to the end, you will not be disappointed!

The way she writes m, you seem to just fall into the peoples minds and I think it really works. This book was different. It is the thing we in modern medicine devote our greatest energy toward preventing.
Perhaps the most disturbing aspect is that it is reflective of a lot of real crimes. It is set in the Family Court, and it is about a couple’s war over custody of their two year old daughter, Matilda. The inspector who handled the case, the doctor involved, case workers, foster parents, and of course Lauren and her remaining siblings. It just all sounds real. Jul 30, Jane rated it it was amazing.
Ghost Child by Caroline Overington – book review
I really enjoyed this book and gave it five stars. Another bounces from home to home before going into independent living at just thirteen. Despite the sad yet realistic theme within the book, there is still a sense of hope that life can turn out OK sometimes with a bit of luck and a lot of determination, even if you’ve had an horrific childhood.
I really liked this book – the characters are so interesting and the whole story could very well have been a true crime. The story made the headlines and hundreds attended the funeral.

You could be forgiven for thinking this was a non fiction book instead of a fiction the way it’s told. The Cashman children are distinctive — very pale with white hair, they are the sort of children that the proprietor of a shop would remember.
When the local one is questioned and has no memory of the children at all, the police are aware that there are glaring holes in the story. Doesn’t matter if they are drug abusers or prostitutes or paedophiles, but when you want to adopt they put you through hoops, like infertility makes you less capable of being a ogerington.

The story coming from the mother is that she sent 5 year old Jake Cashman and his brother, 3 year old Harley, to the shops to buy cigarettes. May 14, Helen McKenna rated it really liked it Shelves: One downside to this way of writing is that as a reader you don’t develop a particular liking for or bond with a certain main character, but I have to say this didn’t really bother me while reading this book. Her skills are in writing investigative crime novels, aided no doubt by her experience as a journalist!
