It felt sometimes like a writing exercise, but it fits right in with other sci-fi short stories. Very nice quick and easy read with a lot of potential for a full sized novel or series. Expecting to be a reserve force when Varion’s fleet appears he is surprised to find Varion’s fighters heading for his squadron. His crew, or at least one man Brellcriticises him for not being able to do a proper job.
Instead, Kern wishes for Dennison to study his brother’s tactics and learn from them to become a better leader. I mean, it’s a short story and it’s sci-fi. Its definitely a concept that could have stretched to a novel. Unlike his brother who has led the empire to victory after victory, Dennison has yet still to prove himself, and he’s making a poor effort of it; he’s pessimistic, cynical, even aware that his firstbonr NCO’s don’t expect him to win, and he shows a casual attitude to proving them right.
I truly love this one! Thus, a fleet of starships gets slowed down by the largest ship in the fleet. Is there firstborb he can’t write? Kings of the Wyld. I was surprised in a good way. The story felt quaint and derivative.

That being said, just because Sznderson saw the twists and turns coming, doesn’t mean the ride wasn’t enjoyable. But I actually liked this book, imagine my surprise xD. The Gathering player, the magic systems in his novels are very clearly based on spending his teen years figstborn an RPGer, and while reading this short story, Firwtborn pictured him pushing little cardboard chits around on a Starfleet I’ve got mixed feelings about Brandon Sanderson — I liked his Mistborn series, and I’ve gotten invested in his new doorstopper epic fantasy series The Stormlight Archivebut he’s kind of a dork and sometimes he writes dorky stuff.

The story is set in space, it’s SF-themed, though there’s not much science involved. The first is that Sanderson has this creepy “predestined eanderson greatness” vibe in all of his stories.
