Waaaaaaaaay to wordy, I lost interest after she made it through Winter, met the magical lady, and just finds civilization again. For the first part of the book during Lissar’s “first life”deerskn struggles with her identity, finding herself uncomfortable with courtly life. Set up a giveaway. I am glad for the other reviews on this site, as they’ve confirmed what I’ve been thinking, and now I won’t have to waste any more time. On Lissla’s 17th birthday, he breaks into her room, and rapes her.
It might be a spoiler, but no one should stumble upon that by accident so I’m leaving it out here for all to see.
mckinpey McKinley will have to do much better than this to capture an adult audience. Up next I’ll be reading the Hero and Crown so we’ll see how that fares.
ISFDB to the rescue! The following morning Lissar, finds herself struck with amnesia. It was a story that was meant to speak to girls and women trapped in sexually abusive relationships with men who had complete power over them.
Lists with This Book. While her mind buried the events of her past and she gradually came to know the truth, I was disappointed by the heavy guidance of a magic that dictated her actions.
Sorry, your blog cannot share mxkinley by email. But it was only for about two chapters that it was like this. Was she a ghost? McKinley writes beautifully, bringing out the darkness that flows beneath the surface in these old tales, but also highlighting the goodness and strength that we all have within us, even at moments when it seems too hard to carry on.

It doesn’t capture the seriousness or tragedy. Thus, I didn’t really intend to read Deerskin but the premises sounded too intriguing to pass up.
Deersin those deers,in appeal to you, maybe you’ll love this book. I really enjoyed this book.

As much as I like McKinley, and as much as I enjoyed Part Two of the novel, I have to rate it lower since the beginning and end weren’t as pleasing. She sends for artists from all the kingdoms, and eventually one is chosen to paint a portrait of her as she was before her illness. I’ve already returned it to the library, otherwise I’d type up a paragraph to show you, but for now, here, I’ll try to write something that’s sort of, maybe, in the kind of complexity because it’s overwhelming, the complexity, and the sentences might be entire paragraphs, and they seemed endless, and now I’m going to jump back to the library because she did that a lot but I don’t have a reason to jump back to the library.

Drerskin found one of her best pieces of work to be dull and in need of defrskin polishing.
Eventually Lissar returns to society and helps Prince Ossin with his breeding dogs. The story ends with Lissar tentatively coming back to Ossin, offering to give their relationship a chance.
Deerskin Spoiler Free Discussion. This is very much a fairytale. I got a bundle deal on several of Mckinley’s works and so I went into this novel with no idea what it was about. But then one day, the most beautiful woman in the seven kingdoms falls ill and, because she cannot bear the fading of even the tiniest fraction of her beauty, confines herself to her bed and covers herself up with a veil, so that no one can glimpse her, not even her devastated husband.
Ace; Reprint edition July 1, Language: There’s a lot of darkness in this book and, though beautifully written, absolutely not for the faint of heart or young readers. Her passion for reading was one of the most constant things in her childhood, so she began to remember events, places, and time periods by what books she read where.
